Ouch. Been really close to doing what you did, but I always wimp out of sneaking stolen stuff in and jettison it.
I was a Rare Cobra pilot until two days ago, and I've got an Asp now (probably ky the same step you'll take soon by the sounds of it), and with 108 tonnes (plus the Base ship being more) it REALLY doesn't slow down when you need it to. The inertia of vertical and lateral Thrusters is intense too. Definitely no 350+ entrances into docks anymore!! Even 5kph too much is enough to get your concentration most of the time.
