Comment 34 for bug 863399

I would also like to see this fix backported if possible. The compiz workaround is better than nothing, but as others have mentioned, only works on compiz-friendly systems. It's a major regression in one of the most frequently used parts of the UI. Even a fix in a PPA would be welcome, though most would never see it.

Glad to see that it has been fixed in any case, even if we can't actually see it yet.
