on my nvidia machine:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G71 [GeForce Go 7900 GS] (rev a1)
The issue given by commit rev 2237 was different (with a maximized application):
- the whole screen would turn black (I can sometimes see artifacts of the maximized windows), but globally, everything black apart from the launcher and the panel.
Reverting the commit fixed it.
