Metapackages for installing GNOME Shell, the default GNOME artwork and some
useful default settings.

You may want use a live CD (see website) or install one of the following
packages:
* gnomeshell-default-settings for installation from the Unity desktop
* gnomeshell-desktop for installation from a minimal text-based system
For detailed information and instructions see the information below or the
package descriptions in your favourite package manager (only after you have
added the PPA).

Detailed information for installation:

> From a Live CD (recommended):
The installation procedure is the same as with the official Ubuntu CD.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE WEBSITE LINKED ABOVE TO DOWNLOAD THE FINAL VERSION.

> From a minimal text-based installation (alternative):
Use the package gnomeshell-desktop for installing a GNOME Shell desktop from
a minimal Ubuntu installation. This will install GNOME Shell and a default
set of applications.
Instructions for adding the PPA and installation of the package:
$ sudo apt-get install python-software-properties # for apt-add-repository
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:jan-hoffmann/gnome-shell
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gnomeshell-desktop
After you have verified your new desktop interface is working (reboot), you
should delete a configuration file to enable graphical network management:
$ sudo rm /etc/network/interfaces

> From an existing Ubuntu 11.10 or 12.04 installation (not recommended if
  you want a pure GNOME Shell experience):
Use the package gnomeshell-default-settings if you want to install GNOME
Shell from a Unity desktop. Note that this affects the default theme for
Unity sessions, as well. The theme and session may not change for existing
users. You then have to manually change the session in GDM/LightDM and the
theme using System Settings.
This type of installation is not recommended by me, because you'll get some
stuff like the overlay scrollbars and notification pop-ups from the Unity
interface.
