You can update your system with unsupported packages from this untrusted PPA by adding ppa:jtaylor/keepass to your system's Software Sources. ( Read about installing ) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jtaylor/keepass. sudo apt update.

I found out the cause digging through strace, and while the bug doesn't appear to be in the keepass2 package itself, it's a weird one: My "/usr/share/ fonts/msfonts" had mode 700, preventing mono from accessing the Microsoft fonts. I had to "chmod +rx /usr/share/ fonts/msfonts", and then KeePass2 started. "dpkg -S" says no package is claiming ...
