Bug Description

On hardware pack:

http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/hwpacks/lt-panda-x11-base/65/hwpack_linaro-lt-panda-x11-base_20120521-65_armhf_supported.tar.gz

with ubuntu image:

http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/images/ubuntu-desktop/170/linaro-precise-ubuntu-desktop-20120521-170.tar.gz

The UI response is quite slow, even no response at all. For example, using mouse to click someone button, it will take 10+ seconds to give a feedback, even more. In this situation, do something through UI is painful.

Like we had on another bug, can you check if this is related with Unity 3d or 2d?

I know unity 3d is a bit slow, and with a slow sd card it can perform quite bad (and unfortunately not much to do :-(

Hi Ricardo, do you know that bug ID you mentioned? Also, because the slow UI response, the firefox browser can only navigate 1 or 2 web pages then freezes there.

If this is still happening, can you run top on the serial console and look at memory and processes taking cpu?

I think it's related to Unity-3D. After I switched to the Unity-2D, at least I can use Firefox to navigate some web pages. But in Unity-3D mode, I can only browse 2 or 3 web pages. The mouse click response is also better in Unity-2D mode.

However, under the Unity-3D, from "top" output, everything looks good. The compiz process take 3% CPU and 9% RAM, others look normally too.

I believe this is because of the current SGX driver used with the Panda hwpack. For some reason, it seems it rendering the desktop content but not copying it back to the framebuffer. One simple use case I had was the lock-screen, which after hitting enter it was still there, which only disappeared after moving the mouse and clicking at the desktop (but it was unlocked already).

Moving this to 12.07 once, as we'll get a newer SGX driver from TI.
