[M31EI Series, Realtek ID 861] No sound at all from speakers or headphones

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Try removing the "randomsound" package if you have it installed?

Hello, thank you for the advice.

I have updated to 12.10. The randomsound package is not installed, but the
problem is still there. Do you have other ideas?

you have to remove model=generic from /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
