Thank you for your bug report. Could you please attach the complete output of 'lspci -vvn' (as root)?

I have a GeForce 6800 and the same problem. This also causes desktop-effects to not install restricted drivers when needed.

i have a 6600:

Hello,
I am having exactly the same problem,i know that i do need to restricted drivers, and a know that they are enabled and working (i have run glxgears -info) and i get ~4000fps with my Nvidia 6600.

however when i click restricted driver management it tells me:

"your hardware does not need any restricted drivers"

This is blatantly not true. i think it might have something to do with the direct rendering:

"james@james-ubuntu:~$ xdriinfo
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Screen 0: not direct rendering capable."

also when i start beryl, i just get a white screen.
hope this helps,
