Note that the music is non-free too, but not quite as bad as the sounds.

Brian Redfern has created new sound files to replace them, and released those under the Artistic License (see the Debian Bug for more information). They can be downloaded from http://www.secret49.com/chromium_music.tar.gz.

Since 0.9.13.1-1 (currently in Ubuntu Intrepid) this is fixed.
