Bug Description

Kubuntu Feisty Beta live cd hangs during boot. On using no splash option it stops after printing the line

'Starting KDM...'

Hardware - Dell Inspiron 6400
Intel core duo
ATi X1300

Using Edgy without any problems at the moment.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file and your '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file, from Edgy, as attachments to your bug report? The output of 'sudo lspci -vv' and 'sudo lspci -vvn' from Edgy would also be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I remembered that Edgy install also had problems with X. Even though install went fine X was slow to respond. Things became alright only after installing fglrx driver

I tried again with Ubuntu Feisty beta instead of Kubuntu Feisty beta. Same problem. Ubuntu gave an error message

'X server failed. Could be due to wrong setup.'
'no usable screens'

The screen showing detailed error report showed that X was using vesa as driver.
