Bug Description

Operating system : Linux mintdebian 3.2.0-2-amd64 Linux Mint Debian Edition Release: 1
Firefox 14.0.1

In LMDE the Firefox profile folder located in the default ~/.mozilla location can't be accessed -as it should normally be- from the about:support page clicking the Open Directory button.

Steps to reproduce: from the Firefox menu button-->Help-->Troubleshooting Information (or type about:support in the URL bar),then press the Open Directory button.

What happens:nothing.

What should happen:the Firefox profile folder located in the default directory home/user/.mozilla should open.

Reproducible:always

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Possibly related issue:the "Open Data Folder" in the Tools menu and "Show Files" entry in the Tools menu in the right-click context menu of the Scrapbook addon also do nothing instead of opening the related directory

This bug also happens in Kubuntu 12.10. If I start Firefox from a terminal, when I click [Open Directory] the terminal shows
** (firefox:22720): WARNING **: Cannot launch default application: No application is registered as handling this file

But in my desktop I do have a default application set for "File Manager", and I have a file type association for inode/directory. And `xdg-open file:///tmp/` opens my preferred file manager.

The relevant Firefox code is function openProfileDirectory() in https://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/toolkit/content/aboutSupport.js#373 , but I can't figure out whta happens after that.

I think that calls nsLocalFile(profileDir).reveal(); which ends up either calling gnomevfs or giovfs ShowURIForInput(). I'm on Kubuntu, I have libgnomevfs2-0 installed, dunno about giovfs. I hope this helps.

Hi,

I couldn't reproduce it in Ubuntu Desktop and firefox:

Precise
16.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
17.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

Quantal
16.0.1+build1-0ubuntu1
17.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.10.1

Raring
18.0~b2+build1-0ubuntu1

What I've done is:

1.- boot the computer
2.- introduce about:support in the url bar and hit enter
3.- click in "Open Directory"
4.- it spawned nautilus in the ~/.mozilla location

is this behavior still present?

I've reported this bug referring to Linux mintdebian (LMDE),and yes,it is still there with any Firefox version I've tried so far, including the current 17.0.01,even in safe mode: the Open Directory button in about:support doesn't work.

Tested working on Ubuntu, so marking invalid, leaving open for LMDE.

Changed in firefox (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
affects: ubuntu → firefox (Ubuntu)
