Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfdesktop4

When I select/deselect the icons that I want to appear on my desktop in Xfce 4 Desktop Settings (xfce-setting-show), the changes are not instantaneous, which is what I expect them to be. I need to log out and back in for the settings to take effect. I'm guessing this bug is in xfdesktop4, because that is what controls xfce's desktop. On the whole, this behaviour seems counter-intuitive. In gnome, selecting the icons that I want to appear on the desktop (via gconf) has an instantaneous effect.

You can change the configuration by selecting "None" in the Desktop Icons pop-up menu, then select "File/launcher icons" again.

Do you still have this issue with an up-to-date Xubuntu Feisty ?

Changed in xfdesktop4:
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

I usually want to disable the 'home', 'trash' and 'file system' icons from my desktop. With the 'Desktop Preferences' menu from Xubuntu Feisty (up-to-date) the effect is not immediate, and in fact, it didn't work after reboot either. But it does indeed work with the 'None' -- 'File/launcger icons' tweak posted previously. I think this is really counter-intuitive.

Hi,

It seems to be the same issue as the one described in Bug #113933.
