Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

The new screen resolution is not the default nor available in the Screen Resolution application when added to /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually or by using sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. The intended resolution is 1280x1024 and the current resolution is 1024x768 with options for 800x600 and 640x480. When I remove the 640x480 option from xorg.conf, it doesn't go away in the Screen Resolution application. I have an ATi 9200 with a 19 inch LCD monitor and I have tried the following drivers multiple times: vesa, ati, radeon, fglrx (downloaded from ATi and both versions in the Feisty repositories). I have come to the conclusion that the X server is ignoring that line in the xorg.conf.

With the radeon driver, the screen goes to 1280x768 even though that option is not in xorg.conf.

I forgot to mention that this monitor was auto detected in Dapper for me, so it seems like things have gone backwards in that regard.

Also, the restricted drivers manager says that no restricted drivers are needed for my system.

try setting the monitor sync ranges in the conf.

also, what does 'lspci | grep VGA' give?

Setting the monitor sync ranges did nothing. What did work was deleting the xorg.conf file and letting X regenerate it. After that, the screen was at 1280x1024 but the screen resolution app said 1440xsomething and the some gnome-panel apps were off the screen. After changing that to 1280x1024, it is perfect.

daniel@daniel-desktop:~$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200] (rev 01)
