dasher cannot write text directly into another window

Bug Description

Binary package hint: dasher

Section 4.4 of the help that comes with version 4.4.0 in feisty package 4.4.0-0ubuntu1 says:

You can also have whatever is written in Dasher be directly beamed to another window.
Enable the `send text to other window' option under the options menu. Then the window that
you select will get Dasher's output.

I can't seem to get this to work. And there's no such option in the options menus.

Dasher 4.2.2 under windows has this option in the "View" tab called "Application Style" with two options: Stand-alone and Direct entry. I can't see these in the linux version of Dasher in Ubuntu.

Try specifying

--appstyle=direct

on the command line.

Thanks - this looks promising. The dasher window appears with no text editing
box, but when I stream the text it does not appear in any other windows
(tried konsole, scite, open office writer). The console output follows (the
suspicious bit is at the end about the missing AT_SPI_REGISTRY):

Seems that that option got broken. 4.7.0 looks promising WRT all the other bugs logged here, but not this one. :-/

The daemon "/usr/lib/at-spi/at-spi-registryd" needs to be running. It should start when you turn on accessibility (and log out and back in), or you can start it manually.

launching with "dasher -a direct" will provide the desired behaviour. The glade file for the preferences does have options for the different application styles, but this bit is hidden and doesn't work. I believe there is some upstream work on enhancing the UI for this.
