Bug Description

Wrong screen resolution after enabling ati restricted driver.
I have a wide screen that could get 1280x1024 before restricted driver installation but now i can only select 640x480 , 800x600 and 1024x768.

Thanks for the bug report and helping make Ubuntu better.

I suffered this problem myself once, I had to end up reinstalling it but it worked the second time and I have no idea. Could you please attach the output of your xorg.conf

This sounds like bug 49827 and/or bug 3731. xresprobe fails to detect hardware and selects a "Generic Monitor" setting supporting only the three resolutions. The workaround is to make sure the HorizSync and VertRefresh settings in the Monitor section match your monitor's refresh rates. See bug 3731 for discussion and details.
