Feisty Macbook - Sound is inconsistent

Bug Description

Feisty Daily Build, April 11th

Sound is tinney (metallic) at high volumes and flat (meaning not full bodied) at lower volumes. It's like listening to music underwater, and then in an underwater cavern.

Also, I have found with previous releases of ubuntu (not sure about this one) that sound recorder did not record sound at all.

The MacBook has 4 speakers, kind of dividing treble and bass. Main and Front control one or the other, maybe they should be merged on the module level...

Check if you have Main or Front too low, they should be on the same level.

Confirmed.
This is related (?) to bug 102818, and the Main or Front adujustment is not a fix because Master in alsamixer and systemwide only seems to control the treble speakers ie 'FRONT' bus in the mixer. Does the MacBook have three speakers or four? The bass sound comes from the CENTER bus, which is MONO, right only, which makes me think that there is a set of stereo speakers (treble sound) plus a center speaker (bass sound). Is the driver at fault here? I don't know enough *nix to tell, just a newbie.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

unfortunately I have since returned to my proprietary OS since I was having
too much trouble with ubuntu.
I bought my macbook with the intention of running Ubuntu on it, and the
understanding that it would work really well.
Since it still didn't by the late stages of feisty, I switched over to OSX.

I am using ubuntu (hardy) on my macbook, after visiting the Ubuntu Macbook Community Documentation, and following various guides, my sound is still no way near as good as on Mac OS X or Windows.

the sound is thin, quiet, and missing bass, sometimes it even distorts.

I have a black macbook2,1

require more specs?
