Bug Description

Binary package hint: shared-mime-info

Sign a file using:
$ gpg --clearsign file
make a double-click on the "file.asc" you get

Nautilus complains about mimetype not corresponding to the extension.

This is linked to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shared-mime-info/+bug/66134
which refers to the opposite issue: encrypted files using .asc instead of .pgp provoked the same message. Now this bug is fixed, but clear signatures using .asc don't work.

Thank you for your bug. Do you have an example to attach to the bug? What mimetype is listed?

Here are the approximate translations of what Nautilus reports in this message:
extension: encrypted-PGP/MIME header ("en-têtemessage PGP/MIME-encryptée")
content: OpenPGP detached signature ("signature détachée OpenPGP")

Nautilus properties report the second, application/pgp-signature.

What is the default application to open it on your desktop?

Via a right-click:
1. Decrypt the file (approximative translations)
2. Text editor

Via the properties window:
1. Check the signature
2. Text editor

Thank you for the update, it happens on my desktop after installing seahorse, confirming the bug then

Reassigning to seahorse, it doesn't list .asc to "application/pgp-signature"

Hi,
the .asc extension for PGP files is not really managed well currently. It's only registred for application/pgp-encrypted but people also use it for ASCII signatures and keys.

The same applies for the .gpg and .pgp extensions.

The current behaviour makes it impossible to open a ASCII signature file from nautilus as the extension and content differ.

Giving the 3 extensions to all 3 types won't give the desired behaviour in nautilus though, it still believes that the .asc extension maps to the encrypted files and doesn't want to open the file because extension and content differ.

My last tests resturn the correct results with standard::content-type (testcases have been attached). To me this looks like the issue has been fixed. Setting to resolved/fixed.

Looks like it's fixed in Precise, can someone confirm this? I want to mark this as fix released. Testcase attached here shows application/pgp-encrypted, while testcases on freedesktop.org bugzilla shows application/pgp-encrypted for file.asc and application/pgp-keys for key.asc
