Bug Description

Binary package hint: blender

When running blender in windowed mode, there is no window icon. It instead uses the default 'window' window icon.

It should also run in windowed mode (-w switch) by default, but thats a whole different bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/blender/+bug/23761)

Confirmed for GNOME, ion3 and Xfce, but no idea how to fix this actually, KDE seems to provide a window icon by itself, so it works for me, but there should be some way to ship an appropriate icon with the blender package.

This should be sent upstream then. (I think I know what that term means now :P)

KDE uses a workaround in the menu entry which can set custom window icons and window titles different from that set by the application itself. I don't think GNOME/Xfce have this functionality.

A fix for this "bug" is on current SVN version of Blender. Also current version of Blender does run in windowed mode by default now.

It still seems to be the case in Ubuntu Hardy (Gnome), but works in KDE.
BeBraw: do you have a link to the upstream fix?

It seems that regular Blender (version 2.45) provided by the package manager does not have an icon. Blender 2.46 downloaded from blender.org site on the other hand has the icon in the window. Same is true for a recent SVN version.

I am not sure what is causing the issue. Perhaps there was some fix between 2.45 and 2.46 or something is wrong with the build provided at the package manager?

Oh. Forgot to mention that I tested this on Ubuntu Hardy (Gnome). No idea of how it works on Xfce or KDE.

William Grant ( https://launchpad.net/~wgrant ) has a 2.46 deb for both
Hardy and Intrepid in his PPA which correctly sets the window icon. It seems
this was fixed upstream at some point between 2.45 and 2.46.

Is 2.46 planned for inclusion in Intrepid? Could we get it in hardy
backports?
