apache2's with multiple ssl vhosts is fragile and breaks in obscure ways

Bug Description

If you host multiple vhosts with SSL and omit:

        SSLEngine On
        SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/my.web.site.pem

from the config of one of them, apache2 will sometimes just lose it and start
unexpectedly terminating https connections. To make matters worse even with
'LogLevel debug' nothing is recorded in the error.log which makes this problem
unnecessarily hard to diagnose. Oh, and 'apache2ctl configtest' doesn't report
any problems with the config either.
