Bug Description

Ubuntu 6.06.
A few days ago, a regular kernel update was performed (up to 2.6.15-28-386). After reboot, there was no sound. Volume Control icon is displayed with red cross. "alsamixer" command returns: "alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device". In System>Preferencs>Sound the "Default Sound Card" field is empty. When shutting down the system, among the messages in brown letters, there is some error report, something like: "...no ALSA sound card found".
I reinstalled all alsa and gstreamer modules I could find, checked /etc/asound.conf, ~/asoundrc and /etc/esound/esd.conf - everything is OK, as it should be.
Hardware: Athlon XP 1900+, Mobo MSI 6712, integrated sound VIA 8235.
For now I have to boot into previous kernel 2.6.15-27 to hear any sound.

Well, I don't know what it could be, but today I booted into new kernel to get these requested outputs and... sound worked. Without any updates or changing settings...
That's great though very strange.
Let's consider this bug as decided :)
