Ubuntu 6.06.
A few days ago, a regular kernel update was performed (up to 2.6.15-28-386). After reboot, there was no sound. Volume Control icon is displayed with red cross. "alsamixer" command returns: "alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device". In System>
I reinstalled all alsa and gstreamer modules I could find, checked /etc/asound.conf, ~/asoundrc and /etc/esound/
Hardware: Athlon XP 1900+, Mobo MSI 6712, integrated sound VIA 8235.
For now I have to boot into previous kernel 2.6.15-27 to hear any sound.
