Bug Description

-The problem is random
-While ripping original CD to ogg 160 kbps
-Freezes all my system even the command line. Need to do a hard reboot.
-Able to rip every CD after 1, 2 or 3 trying.
-the version of Sound Juicer is 2.16.1.

I don't know how to get a crash file. Please help because it is very very annoying because it freezes ALL the system, and the problem is easyly reproductable, but it is random. I can't reproduce it for a cd in particular nor for a sound in particular. Sometimes I'm even able to rip an entire CD without any problem, other time I need to restart 1 or 3 times to do it.

Not a sound-juicer bug, whatever it does the system should work correctly, could you attach your /var/log/messages /var/log/syslog /var/log/Xorg.0.log after the crash?

Ok, looks like you were right. It isn't a Sound Juicer Bug. My computer just freezed a few minutes ago while playing amarok. First time it does that. Until now, the problem had happened only with Sound Juicer. I give you the messages files. Can you help-me to see what the kind of problem it is, so I can ask for help in the good place.

Thanks.

Sorry, really, don't want to be a pain in the ass. But after the freezing with Amarok, Something in my playlist change. The "AC-DC" albums were now under the name "AC/DC". Maybe it point out that there is something with the option of fetching info. on the albums on the net. Will continue to seach for other informations.

Oki,

Here what I had done. First, I opened Sound juicer, Second, I fetched the info on the album, third I disconnected my internet connection and finally I ripped the CD. I did this 5 times with 5 different CDs and no freezing occured. After that, I put another CD and ripped it but with keeping the internet connection on. It freezes after the 5 tracks I think. So, I think it is really a problem with the internet information. What do you think. Maybe it has something to do with this bug in MusicBrain, but I don't understand how to solve the problem.

Waiting for your comments now.

I can confirm.

After ripping a lot of my CDs with Sound Juicer, there is never a bug when I disconnected my internet connection during the operation. So it looks like a problem with the MusicBrain application.

Jean-Sebastien Gosselin (jsgosselin) wrote : Problem get worse with Feisty

Hi,

I've upgraded to feisty a couple of days ago. After that, the problem was worse. My Laptop was freezing for no reason while I was doing normal task (Firefox, matlab, playing music, ripping music, working on a Xterm windows....). I reinstalled Feisty 2 times, and even with a fresh install it was freezing. It has even freezed on the live CD!

I don't know what the problem is...for the moment, I returned to my good Windows XP OS that is really stable on my laptop. Never bug, never freeze and seems to run faster with a better control over my CPu and Fans options via 'Toshiba power saver' program... So, I don't think there is a hardware problem with my laptop. I have a Toshiba satellite P30.

For the moment, I have important works to do. I will try Ubuntu later maybe .

This close this bug for me for the moment.

Sebastien,

This bug can pretty much be closed (as an incorrect) considering i'm positive his problem relates to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/109482 for which I had the same problem and found the fix. Just giving you the heads up.

Sincerely,

Epidemic

I am seeing freezing while ripping cds using sound juicer with hardy. The computer only seems to freeze when there are bad blocks on the cd. When I have a freeze, currently playing music skips, the cd drive appears to stop reading, and the hard drive light is on solid.

don't reopen bugs only because you have a similar issue, this one has been closed because it was likely due to linux, did you read the comments?
