Bug Description

Latest release tested: Hardy Heron
Latest package tested: nautilus version 1:2.22.2-0ubuntu4

Ubuntu Feisty 7.04
Click "Places"
Volumes, whether mounted or not show up. (ok) Try to rename a volume to something that makes sense.
--- using right-click context menu does not work (see bug #41011 in nautilus and #340064 in gnome-bugs)

Attempt to rename the volume using e2label and also using tune2fs.
NEITHER of these methods will successfully change the volume name.

For reference, I rebooted to Edgy and both e2label AND tune2fs are successful changing the volume name.
I did not try the context menu in Edgy as that is not the subject of this report and MAY be covered by the bugs noted above in relation to the context menu.
I then rebooted to Feisty 7.04 and it DISPLAYS the new volume names, but still can not change them.

I'd like to reopen this but for Hardy. There actually is a "Rename..." entry in the right-click menu for changing volume names but:

1- It is greyed-out in the right-click menu of a volume's icon in the desktop.

2- It's active in the right-click menu in Places->Computer

(1 & 2 are actually quite contradictory.)

3- Trying to rename a volume via #2 causes an error dialog to show up (see attached picture) which means nothing to me.

4- It doesn't matter if you use Nautilus as the user or with "gksu nautilus" to gain privileges, the error is the same.

5- It doesn't matter if the volume is mounted or not; the error is still the same.

6- Changing the volume label with e2label (on an ext3 partition) does work only after a reboot. This is just a workaround and shouldn't be the way to go for a non-experienced user.
