Bug Description

hello

i think there is a mistake in the french translation of the sources.list manpage (and maybe also in the other languages but i don't know)

on the third paragraph named sources.list.d, people are said to end sources files with *.sources.list, but i think only *.list is enough

the actual manpage :
"Le répertoire /etc/apt/sources.list.d permet de lister des sources de paquets dans des fichiers distincts qui se terminent par sources.list."

what i think could be better (the difference is the last word)
"Le répertoire /etc/apt/sources.list.d permet de lister des sources de paquets dans des fichiers distincts qui se terminent par list."

The english version says:
"The /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory provides a way to add sources.list entries in seperate files that end with sources.list file."

I don't know if files should end with 'sources.list' or with 'list'...

my own experience says :

inside the /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory ...
* if the files ends with '.list' then it is taken in account during a apt-get update
* if else not

Anyway, it is not so important because 'sources.list' ends with 'list'

I just wanted to warn for that because some 'edgy-universe.list' or 'medibuntu.list' appear now on ubuntu forums (particularly on forum.ubuntu-fr.org) and the manpage syntax is not respected

thanks for the time you gave to answer

This seems to be a miss-print in the English version too. Compare this man page entry from Ubuntu 7.04...

"
SOURCES.LIST.D
The /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory provides a way to add sources.list entries in seperate files that end with sources.list file.
"

...with this one from http://linux.die.net/man/5/sources.list:

"
Description
The package resource list is used to locate archives of the package distribution system in use on the system. This control file is located in /etc/apt/sources.list and additionally any files ending in .list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d are included.
"

I suspect someone made a bit of a slip during a cut'n'paste edit. This may affect quite a few translations.

The man page for Ubuntu 7.10 has been corrected. Probably this has made it to the translations and this bug can be closed?

7.10 currently uses version 2.62-1, and 7.04 currently uses version 2.39-1.
