Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Gentlemen I am not trying to be a wise guy, but i reported this problem two days
ago and it got rejected saying it does not happen.

So i redoubled my efforts
and

I have reproduced the problem under Kubuntu Alternate, and Kubuntu, on two
very different machine, using the Final Release a/o 4/17/07 for both Kubuntu's

The problem does not occur on the Ubuntu 4/15/07 Daily-live ( I assume it is the Final Release)
It only occurs on the Kubuntu series

The problem is this
Install Kubuntu , kubuntu alt live-cd
After install completes, boot off hard drive

Then
start openoffice
open new document (or existing document)
Select Insert -> Envelope
OO Immediately crashes
Then puts you thru recovery and you are back to your New/Existing doc.

Select Insert -> Envelope again
Same crash scenario

I sent gdb trace with the original bug
What information do you want.

One other piece of information. I downloaded the
components of pitti's dbgsym and could not get it to
work, but something in his repo downloaded some lib
etc. that fixed the problem (???)
However, a fresh install of Kubuntu or Kubuntu Alt Live-cd does
have the problem

I look forward to assisting you further
jt

Crash is confirmed. I observe the same behaviour whenever I try to Insert->Envelop in document.

Crash takes place in KUbuntu 7.04 latest release.

Same bug here. A fix seems to be to install the openoffice.org meta package which also installs openoffice.org base.

Both envelopes and mail merge work fine after this install.

Go to Adept and search on openoffice. See if openoffice.org is installed. I believe this is the one I installed which also got openoffice-base, the database. It could be that the Envelope is requiring the database to be installed in preparation for looking up addresses. It should not be that way, and may have been fixed by now, but with a fresh install of 7.04 it definitely was a bug.

Already did that, before I submitted the bug report.

OpenOffice.org 2.3.0 on Kubuntu 7.10 still exhibits this behavior. The install is a fresh install, not an upgrade.

I believe that this bug has been corrected in Ubuntu hardy openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3 so I am marking it as Fix Released. If after upgrading you continue to have problems with this issue then feel free to reopen this bug.

Thanks,
