Bug Description

The download page on www.ubuntu.com provides convenient access to the official ISOs (i386, amd64 and sparc), but no information about the unofficial "ports" ISOs which are provided for the benefit of developers.

A link to the ports download directory on cdimage would be appropriate.

Thanks for your bug. I'm not sure about how the download page works so I'll assign this to Matthew.

there is some progress. the page has now removed the broken powerpc option.

it still has no link to the powerpc isos though.

People still cannot find the PowerPC download, and are stating that they have been using Google to find the iso images. Please create a clear download link from the ubuntu.com homepage.

It is still possible to download the cds for PPC from all official mirrors for the 6.06LTS release. Some mirrors have the later versions of the PPC release, but we feel drawing attention to this product directly from the download page would confuse users. You could argue there are too many options there now. There is no plan to add the PPC download option back to the download page.

Matt:

The link is not confusing for anyone (nor is it on 'some mirrors'); it is a
static link, which is right here:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/

The problem is that users are confused now because they do not know how to get
PowerPC Ubuntu in the first place. Putting a link to the above page on the
ubuntu.com page would clarify things for everyone. Why do you not want to do
this? Do you not see that this only adds to the confusion and frustration of
users.

FWIW the 6.06LTS PPC version you mentioned is NOT available as an option from
the ubuntu.com download page.

Would it be possible to have a mention somewhere on ubuntu.com of where one can download ubuntu for port architectures. a search for powerpc in the ubuntu.com webpage does not bring up anything useful.

for reference of anyone who stumbles across this bug report looking for powerpc ubuntu, there is a wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCDownloads that lists download sites.

A single catch-all link at the foot of
 http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
would be useful.

This could be:
"Other releases"
 linking to
 http://releases.ubuntu.com/

That page has links for older releases and ports.
