Bug Description

I have a Compaq nx6110 (Intel 915 graphics controller) hooked up to an external monitor which can go up to 1280x1024. Some time recently, the default configuration lowered the second monitor's resolution down to 640x480. After trying loads of stuff I fixed it by adding a line under the device section:
Option "VideoRam" "64000".

Ideally that should be calculated by the driver based on the desired resolution, bit depth, options etc.

Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log[.old] files showing the failure. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging for more info on debugging X problems, and other info you could include to help triage this bug.

Also, can you test this using the "intel" driver on Gutsy to see if it's still an issue there? Possibly with -intel it's now fixed.
