Bug Description

Hi!
I am using Ubuntu 12.10 and it is not possible to log in to skype with my hotmail / live account [using skype installed from software-center (skype 4.1.0.20.0-0ubuntu0.12.04.1)].
I get this message: "Sometimes the internet gets a bit sleepy and takes a nap...."
It is perfectly possilbe to log in using my skype account, but not hotmail / live account (so it is not a internet connection issue).

As far a this link says (http://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/Can-t-login-with-Microsoft-account-with-4-1-and-Ubuntu-12-10/td-p/1235208) is possible to log in (with hotmail / live account) from Ubuntu 12.04 but not from 12.10.
Any ideas?

This seem to be affecting only 64 bit version of Ubuntu 12.10 after last update.

I can confirm that this is still an issue in 64 bit Ubuntu 12.10

Well, you can add 12.04 64 bits also, because I'm using it and can't login that way, only Skype username works, then I can't view my MSN contacts.

Well, I don't know which procedure fix that, but I took the following actions:
1st - remove Skype via terminal
2nd - remove any reference to Skype via Nautilus (as root). Do a search for "skype" and delete everything that shows up
3rd - download skype package from its site
4th - install and be happy.
Worked for me in Precise x64.

Ops, between 1st and 2nd I did a "sudo apt-get autoremove" to get rid of the packages related to skype.

The binary is the same whether on 64-bit or 32-bit Ubuntu, and there's no indication of hidden library dependencies within the skype binary. And the same problem is reported to affect the upstream package as the one in the partner repository. So this will need to be fixed by Skype themselves.

64bit Ubuntu 12.04 (ElementaryOS Luna) and the same problem here. Normal Skype -login works, but Microsoft doesn't.

I think I have the solution. Others might want to try this:

I installed Ubuntu 12.10 64 bits from scratch yesterday, then added Canonical patner repos and installed Skype from there. It did not let me log in with MS account telling me it was a network problem. Here's the solution:

sudo apt-get install libssl1.0.0:i386

Apparently it needs the 32 bit version of that package, but it is not listed as a dependency so it has to be already installed or installed manually later.

After you install the package, make sure you exit all skype running instances before you try to log in again.

I'm afraid installing libssl1.0.0:i386 made progress, but I still can't log in. Before installing the MS account login screen did not show and there was a network error instead. Not I can enter MS username and password in the MS account login screen, but it fails at the actual log in with a different network error.

Maybe there's some other 386 package dependency missing. Any ideas?

Sorry to comment again, but I can confirm the same skype package works in another 64 bit Ubuntu 12.19 computer that happens to have a lof ot 386 packages installed (because I installed wine that has lots of 386 dependencies). I can log in and log out of Skype using MS account with no network errors.

Today it works for me too. I did not change anything after installing libssl1.0.0:i386, but the last 2 logins have been successful.
