Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

The "Alt Gr" (right alt) key on my french keyboard doesn't work in gedit when I use the "France alternative" or "France" keyboard layout. When I use this key, nothing happens.
It works in other programs (console, vi, firefox, ...)

Thank you for your bug. What keyboard modele do you configure? What version of Ubuntu do you use? That works correctly desktop and nobody else complained, you likely changed a setting to trigger it would be interesting to know which one

I have the "Generic 105-key (Intl) PC" keyboard model (I think it was selected as default during the install).
I am using Ubuntu Feisty, with all the updates installed, and I have chosen to have the user interface in English instead of French (maybe this is what is causing this behavior?).

Could you run "gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd" and attach it to the bug?

The output of "gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd" is :
 layouts = [fr oss,fr,us,epo]
 model =
 options = [grp grp:ctrls_toggle]
 overrideSettings = true

Is it normal that the keyboard model "fr oss" has a tabulation in its name? (ASCII character 0x09, I checked with "hd")
That seems weird to me.

I played with the settings and I discovered than when I check the box "Both Alt keys together change group." then the problem disappears!
That is with the following configuration:
 layouts = [fr oss,fr,us,epo]
 model =
 options = [grp grp:alts_toggle,grp grp:ctrls_toggle]
 overrideSettings = true

looks like an xkeyboard-config bug or an user configuration error then

i'm running intrepid alpha 6 with :
PC générique 105 touches (Intl)
France (obsolète) Autre

and in gedit, Alt Gr + é gives ~which seems ok ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#French )

note that i don't have Bug #240203 either anymore with that configuration

Hi nicolas.bros,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I tested again and I couldn't reproduce the problem I had (it's been 3 versions of Ubuntu since I opened this bug!).
