Bug Description

When I plug my Microdia 0c45:6007 (cheap) webcam to my Feisty box, it gets detected but the picture is not right (see attached camshot).

Once the webcam is plugged, dmesg returns the following line:
[ 2393.612000] ubuntu/media/gspcav1/gspca_core.c: USB SPCA5XX camera found. SONIX sn9c10[1 2]

The problem has also been reported on ubuntuforums.org, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=316766

I have a laptop Microdia webcam 0c45 62c0 that works perfectly with Cheese 2.21.5 on Hardy Alpha 4. It worked on Gutsy as well. Can you try it with Cheese and Gutsy/Hardy (alpha)?

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta?

No, using the 8.10 Beta Desktop CD download a few minutes ago I could no reproduce this symptom.

The cam is now working using Ekiga, but not right. I looks like the sensor is seeing to much light. I've to be out of any direct light and close to the cam to see myslef, and the background is always bright white.

I couldn't get it to work on Camorama or Cheese. When trying with gstreamer-properties, I get the following error message:
"Error running pipeline 'Video for Linux 2': Could not negotiate format [gstbasesrc.c(2436) : gst_base_src_start (): /pipeline0/v4l2src3: Check your filtered caps, if any]".

I have a similar problem with bad picture for the
sonixj ID 0c45:613c
Sonix Pccam168
chipset hv7131r

The picture is too grey, not enough colours. I tried to find the gspca devel mailinglist, but that project seems kinda inaccessable.
I would be willing to work with the developers to get my picture fixed.
Can you help?

Thanks.

@Tom
The original reporter say this bug is fixed for his webcam.
It's been a long time since you confirm this bug.
Is it still reproducible using a supported Ubuntu release, as Hardy, Jaunty or Karmic?

@Sergio

Yes, Karmic kernel fixed this bug. The picture is nearly as good as on Windows now.
