I remember it was a struggle for me to find this workaround when using dapper so I've wrote it down. But I can only imagine how frustrated must be some other people having the same issue.

So please let me know if there is anything I could do to help you guys fixing this bug.

I'll assign this to the Ubuntu Audio Team. I apologize if this is wrong.

Br,
Daniel.

Do not _ever_ assign to a party unless you have their explicit permission (which, in this case, you didn't.).

Please read http://www.linux-sound.info/alsa/index.php?task=support and tell me the URL of the paste generated by the alsa-info.sh script linked from that page.

That was quite an "ever" there. Please note "I'll assign this to the Ubuntu Audio Team. I apologize if this is wrong.". Anyway, here's the link: http://pastebin.ca/578415

(Assigning without explicit permission is akin to saying that "you must fix this bug". It's rude, just like my response above.)

Are you sure that the default model for your hardware, asus-dig, is incorrect? i.e., unload the sound drivers, then use modprobe snd-hda-codec && modprobe snd-hda-intel model=asus-dig

Daniel Comşa (daniel-comsa) wrote :

I don't really know how to unload the drivers, so what I've done was to comment out the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and added "options snd-hda-intel model=asus-dig position_fix=1" (and without position_fix=1) but it doesn't work after restarting the system.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 alpha?

I'll give it a shot soon (hopefully this week) and will report back.

Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, the behaviour is the same, meaning no sound in headphones by default. I'm running a live session of the ubuntu beta.

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Hi Colin,

At this moment I can't test this because the laptop with that hardware is broken. There's little hope to get it fixed, but if I do get if fixed I will test it.
Maybe someone with the same chipset can test it.

Regards,
Daniel.
