Bug Description

I downloaded the i386 Live Kubuntu cd and burnt to disk without error.

I have used the CD to run in Live mode on several machines of various types (laptop, desktop) and hardware configurations. However, when I
tried to run the Live installer on an IBM R40e the installer faulters and then dies just as it starts the installation. I had got through all of the
install options screen and the message box tells me that it is trying to read the files systems.

Thank you for the report, but this is not a launchpad bug, re-assigning to Ubuntu.
We're interested in why you accidentally recorded this bug as occurring in malone instead of Ubuntu. If you can explain what happened, please let us know in bug 88818.

Changed in malone:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

Hi

Sorry about logging the error in the wrong place. I followed the links from
the Kubuntu site which lead me to malone.

If you can confirm where exactly I should have logged this then I will
ensure I don't make this mistake again.

Apologies once again.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The Live CD installer, ubiquity, should provide some kind of output when it crashes. Does it in fact crash or does it become unresponsive? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your mail.

I can confirm that the installer just hangs on the "detecting filesystems"
dialog. The progress bar does start to increase when the dialog first
appears and the stops at around 15%. The interesting thing is that the file
system had been formatted (I previously had Kubuntu Dapper and a small XP
partition). I did try the installer 3 times, the last of which I left it
for over an hour just to make sure it wasn't just running slow. After the
first attempt the hard drive had been formatted so it would have had a clean
drive to partition.

Not sure if it helps but as previously mentioned the machine was a IBM
Thinkpad R40e (1.2ghz 512mb and 30gb HD). I attempted to create the
following partitions :

8gb root
1024 swap
rest /home

One other thing to note is the R40e has know issue's with the ACPI
implementation, I had passed the "noacpi" parameter to the kernel at boot.

Hope this information helps. If you need any further info or I can test
anything for you let me know.

Cheers

Andy

If you could include the logs file indicated at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs that may help us determine what the issue is. Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks for your mail. I am afraid that I was unable to get to the logs as
the patitioning tool in the installer would, as previously described, leave
me with no accessable file system after the crash.

I'm afraid I had to install an OS as I need to do some development work
urgently and therefore have opted for Debian ("lenny"). If I get the chance
to attempt to install Fiesty again I will let you know.

Cheers
