Bug Description

I had same problem in ubuntu6.10
This time I found it again in feisty
I have no idea why I cannot do "su" and "sudo" on a terminal

--typed on a gnome terminal--

richard@richard-laptop:~$ su
Password:
su: Authentication failure
Sorry.
richard@richard-laptop:~$
###################

so I cannot do anything that root can do on the terminal
