my email is <email address hidden>
Wine just wont work after I tried to install a game earlier.
It installed nicely but I couldnt find the folder to run it.
It asked to install to C: and apparently installed over the same game in XP on my other HD.

You shouldn't use your native windows drive to play with wine, just because it's just to unstable for it.
Sorry, for not helping you any further. Remove your native drive from the configs.

I have experienced the same error on Feisty with Wine, trying to execute a Windows executable from an xTerm:

$ ./PHBSYS-01101528-UN.exe
Can't exec "/usr/bin/wine-auto": No such file or directory at /usr/share/binfmt-support/run-detectors line 103.
run-detectors: warning: unable to exec /usr/bin/wine-auto
(./PHBSYS-01101528-UN.exe): No such file or directory
run-detectors: unable to find an interpreter for ./PHBSYS-01101528-UN.exe

There is no '/usr/bin/wine-auto'

It is referenced in the binfmt settings file /var/lib/binfmts/wine:

wine
magic
0
MZ

/usr/bin/wine-auto

Surprisingly there is hardly any mention of "wine-auto" via a Google search, and the only comment I found reported wine-auto missing and creating a symlink to "wine":

$ sudo ln -s /usr/bin/wine /usr/bin/wine-auto

So perhaps this problem is with the binfmt-support package when it is installed and configured?

I noticed the lack of association too.
One one install attempt with a downloaded version all of the
functionality was there but I crashed ubuntu later on when i used that
3-d screensaver tool beryl.
Otherwise I have quite simply stopped using Windows except when I want
to play my mmorpg online games.
