Bug Description

Binary package hint: gcalctool

When I punch the key "^" Calculator does not do anything. Instead I must use the "x^2" button to get the "^" to appear in my Calculator screen. It seems to me like this should work because bug 16505 was supposed to have changed the key to "^" in the first place.

I tried this with Gcalctool 5.9.14.
the key "^" works only in the "scintific mode".

I wasn't able to add a "^" with the keyboard in view "standard" "extended" "finanztechnisch"

upstream said it's not a bug:

"Ahh, I reread the original bug. Yes, the "^" key will only
work in scientific mode because that's where the x^y button
resides.

The key equivalent of x squared is "@". If you hover the mouse
over the button you'll see this information.

In gcalctool Basic mode, I used the keyboard to enter

4
@
=

I got the result of 16.

And I replied. :)

"I must disagree, then, to why I cannot add a "^" in Advanced mode. It seems
silly that a user must delete the 2 from the ^2 (squared) to be able to cube a
number, etc.

Shouldn't this at least be added as a feature request instead of rejecting it?"

we have no need to keep a distribution task if upstream rejected the request since we don't want to modify the code in a distribution specific way65642

No, I didn't mean for us to start a whole seperate package and all that. I only wanted to be sure people who visited this bug realized it isn't over... yet.
