Hi

I hope that by subscribing to this bug it will be reopened.

I have the same problem. I am using the default Gnome desktop (I think the manager is Metacity?). I insert names for the desktops and save them but on reopening, they have dissapeared. However, if I switch to another manager (beryl) and then back to Metacity some of the names reappear (usually destop 1.

So the data is stored somewhere on the machine but is not being read in correctly. Can you help me identify what is wrong?

Further information.

When I move a window to another workspace, the list of workspaces DOES show the workspace names so the information is definitely there and correct but the panel icons for the workspaces are not picking them up.

Same here. In Gnome, the initial naming of the workspaces was OK, but further renaming of the newly initialized names is not possible. You edit the name in "Preferences" and the change is simply ignored.
