Bug Description

I have the latest Ubuntu 7.04 with all the updates running on Asus G1 laptop.

Here is my problem:

Initialy wired network works fine when I turn on the laptop and the cable is plugged in. Wireless also works fine. However when I switch from wired to wireless network via tray icon of network manager, I cannot go back to wired network anymore, it is just grayed out.

If I just disable wireless network, it still does not connect back to wired. If I choose to disable and re enable the network it still can only work with wireless, wired does not work.

The laptop has Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

Other comment:

"I have the same problem, anyone can help us ?
My wirelles conncetions works fine only to connect with wired cable i have to connect the cable before the boot.

I tried to disable the network manager , to manage the wired connections but i still with the same problem, ifup the interface can't get me a ip."

I can confirm this behavior. I am having the same issue with my Lenovo T60. It has the same WLAN-Adapter.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The output of 'lspci -vv', 'dmesg' and the full content of '/etc/network/interfaces' and '/var/log/daemon.log' will help us troubleshoot this issue. Thanks in advance.

Maybe related to wpa_supplicant as I have been unable to reproduce this issue without it.

I don't know if there was some kind of update that I've installed recently but jut now I was able to switch from wireless back to wired network. I was on the wired today, then switched to wireless and unplugged the cable. Few hours later came back and plugged the cable back in. Tried to switch back to wired network and it worked.

Will post more results.

Here is another problem I had today:

For some reason wireless would not connect to my network. So before restarting I first tried to disable networking and then enable it. When I did this, the only thing that was available after I enabled networking back was wired network. There was no wireless at all.

Another bug ?

For some reason I get this error: During the day my wireless disconnected and could not connect back. To do so I have to restart Ubuntu completely. When I looked into properties of manual configuration, I saw that instead of wireless and wired network interfaces, there are now 2 wired network interfaces.
