synaptics touch pad speed reset after resume from suspend

Bug Description

I set my mouse movement settings using the gnome-mouse-settings interface. After a suspend/resume cycle, they are reset to some slowish setting, with (seemingly) no acceleration. The gnome-mouse-settings dialog seems to no longer have an effect after the resume.

I primarily use a synaptics touch pad, but sometimes plug in an external usb mouse.

This is on an i686 Sony Vaio VGN-A397XP laptop, with Feisty.

no, me being stupid sorry. I ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg with my usb mouse plugged in and it selected that as the core pointer. The gnome-mouse-settings program seems to only apply to the core pointer. Suspend/resume thing was a red herring I guess.
