Bug Description

Linux-meta-lts-quantal provides Kernel Version 3.5 for 12.04.2 Precise

there will appear build errors... for the kernel-module

Kindly update to Version VirtualBox 4.2.8

4.1.12 was issued on 2012-04-02, so it didn't know about newer kernels

Doing so has the potential to close bug1016165 (93 users affected as per 2013-09-03) and bug1081307 (124 users affected as per 2013-09-03)

If VirtualBox is not maintainable due to SRU restrictions in Ubuntu it should get _removed_ from the Ubuntu-sources > 12.04.1.VirtualBox.org provides a vivid help-forum and bug-database from their own.

VirtualBox changelog:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Changelog-4.2

Sourcecode: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.2.8/VirtualBox-4.2.8.tar.bz2

The situation on VirtualBox 4.1.18 on Quantal 12.10 & Raring 13.04 is alike...

The situation there could be easily solved by promoting the package in the PARTNER repository, like Debian does with /contrib/

Thanks in advance for helping to make Ubuntu better every day!

If I were capable of reading arabic / vietnamese / russian / chinese etc. I could evaluate if Ubuntu gets a good or a bad reputation in the comments :

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Raring Ringtail. (See [2] on this policy)

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please follow the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention. Note that this would need a separate bug for the SRU to quantal, as currently, the bug targets raring and it's fixed there
