Bug Description

The fix was:
add to /boot/grub/menu.lst
  video=vesafb vga=773

This is a sony vaio laptop, that used to display boot progress in gui mode with Dapper or Edgy.

This seems to be a bug, & should be fixed.

Otherwise, upon boot, the system gives the (GRUB?) message like "loading system", in text mode,
then the screen goes blank for about 30 seconds,
then the KDE startup process icons appear.

The problem is the blank screen for 30 seconds.

---
Perhaps safest for use on all laptops would be "vga=769"
which is 640x480 at 8 bit.
