Monitor goes to sleep and does not get up

Bug Description

When my computer is iddle for some time, my monitor goes to sleep (even if I have told Ubuntu not to put it to sleep). Then I can still listen to music and shut down the computer, but my monitor will not recover even if I press keys, move the mouse, etc (it still sleeps). I have tried 2 other monitors and the same thing happens.

I have the same problem on my toshiba portege m100 centrino laptop. I didn't have this problem in Dapper, Edgy or Feisty.

I'm using a Hardy amd64 fresh install and this happens as well. I did, however, set monitor to sleep after 5 min in power management. I just put it to "Never" and will check if this still happens.

Also, Hardy can't seem to suspend properly here, but I'll report this elsewhere.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H (http://www.giga-byte.es/products/mb/specs/ga-ma69gm-s2h_10.html).

I haven't used Ubuntu with this mobo before.

Tested on an Intel chipset + Nvidia graphics card (Asus P5K-VM + GeForce 8800GT) and it's working fine there.

I have the same issue also. The only way I've found to 'recover' is to hold in the power button so as to restart the machine. Ubuntu 7.10, AMD 64 x 2, Radeon 9250 graphics card, 2 gigs RAM, AMD chipset.

I've tried disabling compiz but the issue persists.

This sympton has not manifested as yet. 8.10 is 'bug-free' so far.
