Bug Description

I have tried to install: "VirtualBox_1.3.8_Ubuntu_feisty_i386"
and while installing I got the message:
"only one software management tool is allowed to run at the same time
please close any other applications e.g "update manager"..."
then I restarted (maybe just a stupid windows habit) and tried again and I tried opening the add remove programs or the package manager and I got this message:
"E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."

What can I do?

The correct usage of 'dpkg --configure -a' would be 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'. Have you tried this? Thanks again.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

lorraine - You can do this in a terminal window, which you can access by going to Ubuntu -> Accessories -> Terminal, and you will actually need to use the command 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' in that terminal. If you need more detailed help with doing this I recommend going to http://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ . Thanks!
