desktop effects stop working

Bug Description

hi,
I installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my laptop.
Everything worked fine.
I activated the "desktop effects" and in first instance they worked fine.
After a while, the number of workspaces switched to 1 and the 3d cube stoped working.

Now, whenever I set the number of workspaces to 4, it switches back to 1 after a couple of minutes and I can not get the cube to work anymore....

I work on a Dell laptop (630M Inspiron)
