Bug Description
I am rather puzzled by the comment that has appeared in the matplotlib summary in the package description. It says:
"Although the goal of publication quality is not yet attained, the library does produce high quality 2D plots"
In whose opinion? I have used numerous matplotlib plots in my thesis, and I very much hope it is of publication quality...
But seriously: where does this opinion come from? If it comes from the packager, what authority do that have to make this sort of call?

The description in this case also directly contradicts the contents of /usr/share/ doc/python- matplotlib/ README, which states, in part, "matplotlib is a pure python 2D plotting library with a Matlab(TM) syntax which produces publication quality figures using in a variety of hardcopy formats"
