Bug Description

For some strange reason Ubuntu 7.04 on my laptop can only connect to google.

Setup:
-Ubuntu 7.04 on a laptop.
-Apple airport extreme (has been working with some truble with 6.10)
-Netcomm v300 switch / router
-D-Link DSL-502 modem.

What i have tried (and didn't work obviously :-) ):
-Good old ipv6 disable (in firefox and in modprobe.d/blacklist).
-Connect via wired ethernet on the switch.
-Connect using another machine (MacOSX) using the same setting (dhcp) (that has obviously worked otherwise i would not be posting here).
-Get the airport to act as dhcp server rather than the Netcomm.

Here is the output from:
---ifconfig:

ping www.yahoo.com, worked. Pinging hosts that allow it is not a problem (see below) (shame on me for not having tried abc on the other box:-) ).

I forgot to say that there was one more guy with the exact same problem in the forums. (and of course it is ping -c 10 :-) ).

On the affected machine, could you please try to ping www.ubuntu.com and archive.ubuntu.com? I can reproduce the lack of ping response from www.abc.net.au, but this may be related to the www.abc.ne.au network connection, rather than either my or your local connection.

Thanks for your question.
Next time, please fill your request under "Answers" instead of "Bugs"

I tried to ping www.abc.net.au but it seems this server is blocking ping requests.
try to ping www.yahoo.com instead.

{still waiting after 5 mins]

Thanks guys (and/or girls)

I'm not sure how one would change a bug reqport into a support request, although in future, that is probably the correct forum for this type of request (which would become a bug once the correct package and problem had been identified). Looking at a few things, if you're running GNOME, try running `gksu network-admin`, and make sure your physical devices are not set to Roaming mode. Also, check your proxy settings (`gnome-network-preferences`), and any proxy configuration for Firefox or wget, as this may be a cause.

Well I have removed the "Roaming mode" has been deselected, there are no proxy settings. The results are exactly the same, however I have noticed another very weird thing: I can still connect to google but I cannot connect to the router's admin page (I did not try that before but I assume it was like that)!!!

dup of bug #89160?

Try to disable tcp window scaling

Partial success:
Here is the background the bloody modem is running its own subnet 10.0.0.0 where the router connects via dhcp (and NAT). The router is running it's subnet on 192.168.1.0 with another NAT. It seems linux cannot handle the excitement of beeing behind two NATs and I have to admit is a dodgy rig. Nevertheless Mac OSX's networking and window's networking can handle it for some reason. I might change the configuration to work around it but I believe I have found (my first) bug somewhere in networking.

Sorry last post was before I read about dider's post and yes, disabling tcp_window_scaling solves the problem. Tell me if you need any more help solving that permanently.
