Thanks for reporting this bug. It seems to be related an existing issue currently being tracked as bug 107779. It has something to do with the handling of unicode characters by adept-updater. It would help if you can attach the logs from the failed upgrade if you still have them. These should be found in /var/log/ dist-upgrade. Marking this bug as a duplicate and confirming. Feel free to report any further bugs you may find.
