Hello sojourner,

Thanks for your bug report. Can you please attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade in order to better diagnose the problem. Also, did you have Synaptic open when you did the upgrade? - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/99343

Thank you,

Leo

synaptic was not open at the time this occured , the same failure recurred on 2 subsequent attempts to run partial upgrade per update-manager notification , synaptic was not open on those attempts either. attached log files are from the 3rd attempt but are identical in all respects to those from the first (reported) attempt.

It appears that update-manager could not remove libnss3 for some reason and that was blocking the update . running sudo apt-get dist-upgrade installed all updates and cleared the update-manager notification that a partial upgrade was needed.

Upgrade failed using Alternate CD 7.10 to upgrade 7.04 on a Dell Dimension 2350.
Same CD was used to successfully upgrade 7.04 to 7.10 on a Dell Optiplex GX1.

What file would you need to see to compare these two machines ?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

We are closing this bug report because it doesn't seem to be a problem for the reporrter anymore.

@popcorn09, this issue was about a upgrade process being blocked by a hold ubuntu-desktop, but yours is due to something else.

Thanks again!
