boot hangs on dvd drive error for 2 minutes

During boot of ubuntu i get:

ATA2.01= failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)

repeats 3 more times during boot followed by :

ACPI: PBLK Length [5]

Using 7.04, drive in question had problems using live cd as well. Is a Lite-on DVDRW (single layer DVDRW).
