Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

When I create video DVDs with k3b 1.0 and 1.0.1 on Kubuntu 7.04 from VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS sources, I get video DVDs which my Samsung Home Theater HT-Q20 can't read, saying

      "PLAY PROHIBITED" "PLEASE, CHECK DISC"

With ubuntu 6.10 with k3b 0.12.17 on the same hardware and same media, I get perfect video-DVDs.

With graveman on kubuntu 7.04 I also get good video-DVDs.

I think the Samsung Home Theater HT-Q20 is quite picky about the format of the video-DVDs as my el-cheapo CyberHome *can* play the k3b 1.0+ DVDs, but the point is that k3b 1.0+ burns the DVDs in a different way which causes this problem.

Something else, possibly related: with k3b 1.0+, the resulting DVDs have lowercase directory names, ie "video_ts" instead of "VIDEO_TS". I can workaround this with mount option "-o map=off", but it still is a 'signal'.

I've contacted Sebastian Trueg on this, but no real progress so far.

Sadly I cannot reproduce this. Do you experience the same problem with gutsy? Is there anyone who could confirm this?

Mario,

Have you tested it on a Samsung HT-Q20?
I haven't installed gutsy. I have a system with two CD-drives, so I can try a live-run.

In the meantime I have discovered that:
1) Burning a video-DVD directly from an ISO with growisofs from the command line results in the mentioned message on the Samsung.
2) First mounting the video-DVD-ISO and then burning the mounted AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS with graveman results in a perfect DVD. The strange thing is that graveman of course uses growisofs 'below the hood' (see options below).

Strange stuff.

Sander

graveman gives OK video-DVDs with:

/usr/bin/growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/hda -overburn -gui -use-the-force-luke=tty -V New DVD -A -publisher -p -biblio -copyright -abstract -r -J -graft-points -path-list /tmp/gravemanjf4EgI/pathlist

with pathlist containing pointers to the files.

Samuel,

no, I didn't test it as I don't have Samsung HT-Q20. I should have probably been more specific. Sure, live-run may be good,
so we could try to poinpoint the problem.

Thanks once again.
