Bug Description

Hi,

I have a 6 core, 12 hyperthreaded Intel processor. With 32-bit Ubuntu 12.10, only 8 "cores" show up instead of 12. I believe the 32-bit version has the kernel compiled for a MAX of 8 cores, but I don't think this makes sense. I know the 64-bit version will handle this properly and show all 12 "cores", but for my application development purposes I need to use the 32-bit version of Ubuntu. Can this be fixed in a patch to Ubuntu 12.10?

Thanks,
Rennie

It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. This is a default decision made by the Ubuntu team. I can't seem to find anything that justifies this decision but to get around it you'll need to change a configuration file and then recompile your kernel. This isn't as hard as it seems and there are resources online to help you out.

To recompile, follow the directions in this article https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile
Make sure you change the configuration line listed in this article before compiling though http://askubuntu.com/questions/165507/how-to-change-maximum-number-of-cores

Hope that helps.
