Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Switched from metacity to compiz using the Enable Desktop Effects button; no previous compiz gconf keys existed.

In metacity, I had 12 desktops configured in three rows.

This setting was not migrated to compiz, where I had 2 desktops in 3 rows.

This bug may need some clarification

I'm told that metacity had 12 workspaces configured in 3 rows.

And I'm told that for compiz, this should be migrated to 1 desktop with an hsize of 4 and vsize of 3; giving me 1 workspace with 12 viewports in the arrangement I had configured.

This may be linked to bug #102309 which already has a bunch of duplicates.

There is some work on this here:

but it currently has unwanted side-effects, this needs to be investigated further (plus the location of the num_rows gconf key is currently not stable).

This is fixed now with the latest gnome-control-center appearance capplet. When you switch with it, it will init the number of desktops and the layout correctly (unless there is a bug in that code :)
